Shorthaired Pointers are generally healthy, life long. Our fifteen year old who has come
to the end of her days from sheer old age has never had a sick day in her life. She is an
all time top producer and mother of 24 variously titled and skilled get. We do, however,
screen for health issues that occasionally appear in our breed. We x-ray hips in sire and
dam for hip dysplasia and have them graded by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals. We have both eyes and hearts certified by eye and heart
specialists before sire or dam are bred, and all of our pups go out with heritable health
disorder guarantees as part of our contract (see contract under breeding). We believe in a
healthy diet and ample exercise as a part of the whole healthy dog picture, but nothing
can be more important that being sure the dog is well exercised, not lonely, and an
integrated part of its human family.
A happy dog is a healthy one. Fencing is one of the
mandates of our contract for new puppy homes, and we feel it is one of the most important
factors to guarantee a long, injury free life. We advise new owners on proper diet,
exercise, and general health protocols. |
